An Android phone already in the home is enough. Note that installation requires a factory reset — the phone becomes a calling screen and cannot also be used as an ordinary phone.
Does the person recognise a face in a photo and can they tap it? Then the screen works. There is no second step to learn or fail at — the functional check itself takes a few minutes, the rest of the assessment follows your usual process.
The screen requires no reading, no memory of where you were last and no fine motor control. Answering means tapping anywhere on the image — no swipe.
If the person manages an ordinary phone with support — larger text, fewer apps, speed-dial contacts — that is the route to take. CallByFace is intended for those where that route has been tried and the phone still cannot be used to call and answer. We do not recommend replacing a working smartphone with a locked calling screen.
Family support advisors and dementia nurses can point relatives straight to it. The relative orders themselves, so you handle neither purchasing nor devices.
No volume negotiation, no quote, no subscription.
If you want to try it with several users before recommending it widely, we provide licences and support for a time-limited pilot.
Briefly describe what you want to try and we will reply within one business day.

What CallByFace is — and is not
CallByFace is a licence that locks an ordinary Android phone to a calling screen. It is a consumer product, not a CE marked medical device: it makes no diagnosis, delivers no treatment and monitors no vital signs. It is not a personal alarm — in an emergency, use your local emergency number. The emergency button places an ordinary call to one preset number, with no positioning and no alarm centre; your organisation needs to make its own risk assessment before relying on it as part of a care plan. Whether it can be prescribed as an assistive device is decided entirely by the region or municipality; we make no such decisions and give no guarantees about prescription.

The answers below describe the product as it works. If you need any of it in writing, we send it on request.
We process no personal data about the end user: contacts, photos and call history stay on the phone, and the only thing CallByFace reports is the phone model. For the person placing the order we do process a name, an email address and payment details in order to deliver the licence and keep our accounts — there we are the data controller. If you need a data processing agreement in place, we sign one on request.
The whole interface is six tap targets, each taking up a large share of the screen, with a photo and a name. No text has to be read to place a call, no menu choice is required, and incoming calls are answered by tapping anywhere on the screen rather than swiping. The design comes out of daily use by one person with an acquired brain injury and aphasia since 2022, and has since been adjusted based on how around ten households used it. That is experience-based design, not a formal co-design study.
CallByFace is not CE marked as a medical device. It makes no diagnosis, delivers no treatment and monitors no vital signs — it places ordinary phone calls. It is an ordinary consumer product and is not a replacement for a personal alarm or for care. In an emergency, use your local emergency number.
We produce a description of installation, locked mode, permissions, network dependencies and operation to support your requirements specification. Ask via the forum or the order form.
The phone receives security updates from its manufacturer for as long as the model is supported, so it is worth choosing a model with support time left. CallByFace does not control Android updates. The device reaches no browser, app store or links, which reduces the attack surface, but it should still be handled under your normal mobile device policy.
Locked mode can be lifted by whoever holds the admin code, and a factory reset removes CallByFace entirely and returns the phone to an ordinary Android. The licence is tied to the device, not to a person, and there is no account to close when use ends.
CallByFace is sold by Visera AB, reg.no. 556682-5211. The product needs no server, no account and no login in order to place calls — it keeps working on installed phones even if we were to stop operating. What would be lost in that case is future updates and the forum, not the calling function.
Call volume, speakerphone and pairing with a hearing aid or neck loop follow the phone's own settings and are managed by the family member or staff through admin mode. CallByFace adds no amplification of its own. Where hearing loss is significant, the choice of phone model and hearing equipment should be assessed separately.
All support happens in our open forum. We normally reply within one business day, and the answers stay up for others to read. We have no support phone line and no support email, and we do not commit to contractual response times without a separate agreement. If the product does not work as intended, the 90-day money-back guarantee applies.
